Sociolingo rated 30 months ago- Interesting page. Why am I surprised about an ancient battery?

Seal-of-Shadows rated 30 months ago- And people think we're so much more advanced in modern times than the "ancient civilizations". But still, could you imagine picking up an eight-pack of those things at a store?

Domin8 rated 31 months ago- Battery, Baghdad, 250 BCE -- According to the author, "scientists believe the batteries ... were used to electroplate items such as putting a layer of one metal (gold) onto the surface of another (silver),..." Knowing this, it's interesting to note that many middle-Eastern governments will not allow the artifacts in thier treasuries to be examined. What if you found out all your gold was really lead? However, that is pure speculation. Great stumble, though!
