Sorry, this is the Internet. I don't take anything at face value. Give me sources. Give me proof. Words alone can no longer convince me.

Well, let me first say that I don't entirely disagree with the web host on the issue of "brainwashing", but I do disagree about the idea that Christian Revivalists were the first. Many a generation has been wrought with leaders and manipulators that knew very well the techniques to brainwashing. They knew that enticement and enforcement of ideas could eventually break down the individual or groups. I believe that the author is simply trying to find another reason to "diss" a religion different from his own. And one of the rules to brainwashing? To make you doubt your convictions ... how? By starting to tell you that there is something wrong with your thinking. In this site, Christianity is guilty, and it is therefore wrong to accept, because there may be some brainwashing. Sounds like a good start on brainwashing to me. Fortunately most people, that feel attacked on their beliefs in a church or on a street corner, simply leave, so the effect of the brainwashing technique only works on those that cannot leave. Christianity doesn't force you to stay. Voluntary commitment is different than being the victim of forced propoganda. How do you know the difference? If someone or some group says you can't say or do something that is otherwise considered reasonable or normal, then you are in the sights of brainwashing. Consider all of the political correctness out there. Truth dies in the hands of the political correctness "police" for the sakes of brainwashing.

This site talks about mind control used by preachers in Christian revivalist/charismatic movements. Having grown up in a church like the ones described, it all makes perfect sense to me. I find it to be highly likely that other radical religious cults in the world have perfected these techniques to "coerce" their followers to blow things up in the name of whatever twisted and evil version of god they believe in.
