Love it but I'm having troubles finding a planetarium mode, where you can select your position on earth and just look up (in order to take a look out the window and compare what you see). I imagine that this would be possible to code as an add-on but I haven't looked too deeply into how to do this yet. Has anybody already done this?

I've been playing with Celestia for a couple of years, now. It works much better now that I've upgraded.

universe exploration software

I had a hard time with it. It didn't work very well and wasn't all that easy to use. Maybe I was doing something wrong, based on all the positive reviews. I've taken it off my computer.

WOW, I had a similar program way back on my 386, but this is in 3D and free, cool!

This is cool Welcome to Celestia ... The free space simulation that lets you explore our universe in three dimensions. Celestia runs on Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X. Unlike most planetarium software, Celestia doesn't confine you to the surface of the Earth. You can travel throughout the solar system, to any of over 100,000 stars, or even beyond the galaxy. All movement in Celestia is seamless; the exponential zoom feature lets you explore space across a huge range of scales, from galaxy clusters down to spacecraft only a few meters across. A 'point-and-goto' interface makes it simple to navigate through the universe to the object you want to visit. Celestia is expandable. Celestia comes with a large catalog of stars, planets, moons, asteroids, comets, and spacecraft. If that's not enough, you can download dozens of easy to install add-ons with more objects.

Ahhh, yes. The great Celestia. I swear, if you ever have problems with science, or anything like that, when it comes to studying the univers, in astronomy, and astrology (Hello, High School... Ugh), I highly reccomend this product.... Good Luck.
