I reluctantly gave it a thumbs up, but I think StumbleUpon is better. I certainly get more use out of it, including for social networking. I wrote more about this in my blog.

Orkut is "bait" to get you to register -- and provide extremely detailed demographic information -- so that they (google) can track your search habits against your personal profile. But with the social network software, they get not only your demographics, but a list of your friends, and their demographics, not to mention their search histories.

Interesting social experiment. Membership is by invitation only. By accepting membership you're immediately joined into the Inviter's social circle of friends. As you bring in friends, your social circle grows, as does the extended circle of the Inviters (as well as their friends). Looking through the Friends of Friends list shows how small the world can be. Also has Communities of like-minded thinkers, much like StumbleUpon.
