- this isn't just for older systems. it's becoming increasingly common for new versions of software to stop offering certain features, particularly when it comes to anything the RIAA or MPAA don't like.

- For compatibility issues between older machines (rehab jobs) and newer apps, this is the answer. If the latest version of an application misbehaves, or just doesn't want to run on that old Windows 98 machine you just added to your network, use an older version.
