- A fairy tale wonderland!
"Behold, I send you out as sheep amidst the wolves." This quote brings to mind a work function I once attended. It was held by one of our suppliers, so the only other people that were there were my competitors. To my dismay none of my other colleagues attended. So I was left with two choices either I could stand around and look like a lamp post all afternoon or try and talk to one of my not so friendly competitors. It was a fiercely competitive industry and we were all forever stepping on each others toes, occasionally snatching the jaws of victory from another poor unsuspecting agent but in all fairness it had been done to me a few times. So eventually I got the courage to speak to one of the gentlemen that I had in the past partnered up with to close a deal. Into the conversation I soon realised that if he could he would be baring his teeth. I suddenly felt like Charlize Theron in the scene from Devil's Advocate where she goes shopping and the bystanders turn into demons. Obviously he had not been happy with sharing half of his money and to top it off to a rookie. I just continued to be friendly and he ended our conversation with may you get what you deserve..... Today I think well I have only had good things and really, I was only 21 at the time, talk about insecurity deluxe. I'm not in that industry anymore...but agents are often compared to sharks. I think wolves might be more accurate ;)( This excludes all the lovely people I did work with at the time of course.) - A fairy tale wonderland!
