Very powerful graphics tool that allows you to get a large visual bang for the effort.

I feel silly, because for years I've been waiting for something like this - an easy, graphics-focused programming language to help people learn about the programming, computer graphics and mathematics. It turns out that Processing is exactly what I was looking for, and I hadn't realised - even though I first came across it at least a year ago.

From the page: "Processing is an open source programming language and environment for people who want to program images, animation, and sound. It is used by students, artists, designers, architects, researchers, and hobbyists for learning, prototyping, and production. It is created to teach fundamentals of computer programming within a visual context and to serve as a software sketchbook and professional production tool. Processing is developed by artists and designers as an alternative to commercial software tools in the same domain."

It was used to make some of the things on this site: ertdfgcvb.ch so it must be cool. :)

Processing is an excellent tool for creative people to get comfortable with code. I've had people come into workshops with no programming experience and create interesting work in a matter of hours. Processing recently won the well-deserved Golden Nica in the Prix Ars Electronica competition for electronic art.
