Thumbs up Reviews of this website

This is the other good reason to upgrade to sponsor status. When you do a search at Google you see which results have been reviewed at StumbleUpon. Some have green thumbs up, some have the SU logo, and others have one to five gold stars. (If someone can define what each of those actually indicates that would be even better.) Sponsors cost $20 (USD) a year. You can pay it on behalf of other stumblers if you wish and those who cannot afford the fee can request sponsorship. One reason someone might want to sponsor someone is because of the HUGE difference in currencies in many countries. The last time I asked, TWO U.S. Dollars would buy $96 worth of time from an IT company in India. At that rate , $20 U.S.D. would make the SU fee $960 for someone in India. (I hope I calculated that correctly - if not someone please send me the correction and I'll edit this.) That makes it pretty obvious why jobs are moving out of the U.S. to other countries, doesn't it? It also means it would be an awesome idea for stumblers to trade gifts with friends in other countries. Maybe they could send you a gift that is inexpensive in their country and expensive here it exchange for you paying for something in U.S. Dollars for them. (My example is in USD but could be any currencies in any country.) You can use http://www.paypal.com and other online services to exchange money between currencies if desired. Even within the U.S. the value of money is relative. By that I mean that for some $20 is truly a lot of money. For others it is pocket change. (That is true of amounts of money far higher than many know - I know people for whom $100 or even $1000 is pocket change and others who have NEVER in their life had or even seen $1000 all at once.) Do you remember a time in your life or as a child when you would have been ecstatic over having some trinket. Imagine the joy you can spread when you are able to give spontaneous gifts to others - whether that gift is free to you: a smile, a beautiful image, a kind word or something else you can easily afford that they cannot.

I don't mind the idea of sponsoring a student, but how can you tell if someone is being honest? I guess you can't. It's probably better to help someone than worry about it.

Wow, scathing comments on here!

Honestly, i enjoy the service, and the added feature of having sites i selected in Google searches sounds good. I don't think it's worth anywhere near the price you're asking though. I think i'd pay about 5-10 dollars US, and it would have to be a one-time fee, not a one year subscription.

That said, having this page appear on Stumbles is just low.

This is the worse business model I have seen on the web. You (Stumble) are basically using us to create value and in return (as tone of appreciation) you also want us to pay? Stumble should pay me for rating all these sites. Plus, I am a data mining God, trust me, the profiles you (Stumble) has is worth enough to open up the service totally for all contributors.

I have no objections to sponsorship, or even sponsors for that matter. Odd sponsors I have plenty of time for...what irritates me is that someone saw fit to 'discover' this site. If you want to sponsor, you will track down this page all by yourself. What I would appreciate is a page saying 'Hello! You have been selected to receive free sponsorship to StumbleUpon for one year. Click this link to activate.' I'm waiting...
