kaatarra rated 13 months ago- great website. I use it with my 11th graders.

lorenz77 rated 14 months ago- From the page: "The most amazing thing to note from this follow-up experiment is that 32% of the subjects in the proximity-touch condition held the hand of the learner on the shock plate while administering shocks in excess of 400 volts! Further experiments showed that teachers were less obedient when the experimenter communicated with them via the telephone versus in person, and males were just as likely to be obedient as females, although females tended to be more nervous."

massiva rated 15 months ago- I now about this experiment for maybe 10 years, that is who we are

iheartyouheartme rated 15 months ago- Take away the Nazi connection and it is a good experiment in it's own right but I have to question whether it can be related to what Nazi officers were doing in the war. I highly doubt that the "teachers" were working with the knowledge that refusal to do what they were instructed carried the penalty of instant execution for them, and in most cases, their families too.

gddelanoy rated 15 months ago- Apparently you don't have to be a depraved freak to submit to authority, even when you know what you're doing is wrong.

DanMS rated 15 months ago- I think this site is a bit superficial, but it is also a very short read. There is more to learn here about society, mind, relationship, trust, authority, philosophy, and a whole lot of other stuff, than is at first apparent. This is the experiment wherein one subject subjects another subject to pain, following the "authority" of the experimenter on how to interpret "evidence."
