well, this side certainly represents a different opinion about abortion than I had previously been exposed to... stories from women about how they are glad they decided to have an abortion and have no regrets. I understand how much a pregnancy could ruin somebody's plans for their life, and having never gone through an unwanted pregnancy I can't say that I can appreciate exactly how a woman in that situation might feel. I know it must be devastating in any case... but it still seems selfish to me when a woman says "I've read about other women who have put their newborns up for adoption and I just don't think I could go through with it, so I'll have an abortion instead." I think of the parents in this country who desperately want a child but can't have one, and the ordeals they endure to adopt. My sister-in-law and her husband made this journey not too long ago. I think of the lives that could have been and how they could have made a difference in this world. I don't think we can pass a law banning abortion, because while it is a strongly held belief of mine and of millions of others that life begins at conception (and it is crystal clear and obvious to me that that is the case), it is apparently a subjective belief because millions of other people believe that life doesn't start till the fetus is able to survive on its own. You can legislate morality only if the majority can see its effects on both individuals and society and agree that it has a negative impact (i.e. murder is clearly wrong... everyone can see that someone's right to live is being robbed of them by someone else). With abortion, everything is so private that I don't think a consensus will ever be reached about it. Do I believe in a woman's right to choose? I personally don't believe abortion is the right choice in any situation unless the mother is very likely to lose her life due to the pregnancy (and in this medical era, the chances of that happening are slim to none). But I don't believe that I or anyone else has the right to legislate a ban until we can definitively demonstrate to a large majority that life begins at conception. So, I am not out to take women's "right to choose" away, and I do not pretend to fully understand the pain of many women's situations... but the existence of abortion causes a deep sadness in me all the same.

I can see why this site has been made but it's a little extreme. People should take more care in the first place :(
