ya learn something new everyday! this is news to me. "Lightning can happen as a result of a volcanic eruption. As the hot ash rises through the cooler atmosphere, friction occurs. This friction generates a substantial electrical charge within the cloud, and should the conditions be correct, huge electrical discharges may be observed."
