How to live rent-free. This fascinates me because it's a means to survival withing depending on the feudal-like system we live in currently. I mean, if the utility companies shut off water and power, then what? You're screwed, right? What if you knew how to live off the land and with nature? You wouldn't be screwed then, you'd just need some sharp claws to defend yourself. I should of been a cat.

This comes to me from my friend Kharite http://kharite.stumbleupon.com/ indirectly from a travel website. A Flickr friend, a physician, has used Couch Surfer for some time and sings its praises... Couch Surfing (http://www.couchsurfing.com) Couch Surfers are a network of people who are willing to open up their homes and hearts to frugal travelers, as well as be those travelers when they are not hosting guests. The site prides itself on referrals and having only high quality members, and has a comprehensive program in place to ensure the safety of both traveler and host. But as with any chance to stay at a stranger's place for free, a prudent amount of caution should be exercised.

Good collection of sites for alternative travel instead of going the Expedia or Orbitz route.

From the page: "So youâ€ve decided to do it. You have a friend or family member who can store your belongings for an undetermined period of time, youâ€ve tied up loose ends, and your bags are packed. Itâ€s time to start traveling long term!"
