ATTRACTIVE FACES This project recruits common folk who stumble onto the site to participate in a series of experiments designed to assess facial characteristics to determine a range of attractiveness. The study is on-going, but they've posted some fascinating research results. For example, most women find faces that are less masculine than average more attractive; the perceived difference between male and female faces is similar to the perceived difference between pre- and post adolescent boys. What I find most interesting is that all conclusions so far show predominance, that is there are clear favorites when it comes to faces. All of which means, to me at at least, that while beauty may be in the eye of the beholder, we're all beholding the same faces as attractive. But of course you already knew that, which is why your error in judgment at closing time last night hit you like a ton of bricks when you woke up to the face laying next to you this morning.
