- But a tie DOES serve a function. It is both a fashionable accessory and it holds the collar closed without the need for a button. I guess all shirts should be the colour of the natural fabric, all shoes should be loafers, and all pants should be belted with a rope? People who don't like ties because their 'useless' are often the same people who wear hats indoors and have dreamcatchers in their trucks.
