tisstupid rated 7 months ago- A newly created number system based on visually obtainable information.

Justinsane8000 rated 7 months ago- Octomatics, very interesting idea to potentially change our number system

Maxismax rated 7 months ago- I really dig this for some reason. From the page: "description: the octomatics project is about a new number system which has a lot of advantages over our old decimal system. the name comes from the mixture of 'octal' and 'mathematics'. what do you think: why do we have the decimal system in our western world? because of our 10 fingers? why do we have 7 days a week? why are 60 seconds 1 minute and 60 minutes 1 hour? why do we have 24 hours a day? and 31 or 30 days a month? do you think thats a really good solution? well, here is another one: ...welcome to octomatics ! "

As long as computers and the difficultly interpretable binary system have been in use, computer people have fought for this (or hexadecimal) to make things more manageable. These graphs are new to me, though they are only one step further in connecting octals with binaries. How long would it take to get used to this in a shop etc? I have learned at work to make the transformation pretty quickly, but work is work and computer is computer.

Marcus-Lycus rated 7 months ago- A waste of time. Binary coded octal math that overlooks some of the more complicated issues of using these methods. Then again, maybe everyone will welcome the added burden of 1) converting to and from octal, binary, 2) the additional need to learn new tables of multiplication / division and 3) learning a new set of symbols.

- Most of the questions stated at the start of this page are invalid, but for reasons I don't have the patience to go into now. I will say that twelve months is because of the moon and zodiac signs, though, and therefore there HAS to be so many days in each month.

Pyramind rated 7 months ago- Amazing. :) but too late.

rajg rated 7 months ago- It does make since and would probably be easier to use and learn, however the world is too used to the Arabic numbering system.

Natural rated 7 months ago- We all need basic mathematical skills to do things like managing finances. For most people the main benefit of studying more advanced mathematical concepts is that it provides mental exercise. The process of exploring mathematical concepts sharpens one's logical skills, and improves one's capacity for abstract thinking. This page introduces an octal numbering system that has some very elegant properties. For most people the exercise of learning how to use such a system would be every bit as useful as studying typical high school math topics such as the factoring of trinomials.
