From the page: "You can't have great science fiction writing without great books about science. Ever since the nineteenth century, when Charles Darwin's classics On the Origin of Species and The Descent of Man took the reading public by storm, popular science writing has been inspiring fictional thought experiments, as well as possibly less-inspiring political debates. What are the science books you should be reading now if you want your brain turned inside-out by weird new ideas that might just change the world for real? We've got 20 brilliant, and brilliantly-written, science books that have already influenced science fiction or are about to." An awesome list of books, many of which I've read and several others that I now intend too.

List of mostly 'popular' science books. Some are surprisingly interesting choices, such as Peter Singer's book.

From the page: "Written as a sharp, highly-articulate rejoinder to people like Dawkins who believe that creatures reproduce for selfish reasons" Someone needs to go back and actually read The Selfish Gene. It's not about the organism being selfish, or reproduction based on creature's selfish desires. It's about how the genetic code is selfish and will do anything to sustain its line - including the selection of altruistic behavior for survival and such. No really, the author of this article may recommend these books, but the author should have at least read the other books she/he bashes, too.

Interesting list of popular science books. So far I haven't read any of them (though I've read several other books written by some of the authors mentioned), but many are already on my to-read-list, and after reading some more were added. Comments include some good additional suggestions, also.
