Here's a superb idea for getting clean water to rural African villages.

This is a wonderful 'invention': PlayPumps. Kids play on a merry-go-round and pump water for villages at the same time. [Girls benefit in particular because they are usually the ones fetching water.] But as far as "not having the resources for the diesel fuel or electricity to run the pumps" I have two thoughts. The first is that my grandfather didn't have electricity on his farm back in the mid-1900's, but they could pump water out of the ground by hand just fine. Do not need diesel or electricity for that! Secondly, why don't they apply this same principle and create some electricity (of sorts). You know those flashlights that shine once you've wound them up? Why can't a big merry-go-round do the same thing?

The incredibly innovative PlayPumps allow impoverished villages clean water while children play, preventing water-related diseases in a simplistic and imaginative manner.

What a bloody brilliant idea. Children play on a merry-go-round which pumps much needed well water to the surface.

Putting kid power to use in pumping clean water in sub-saharan africa. Good to see some creative problem solving.
