squarefrog rated 5 months ago- Here's a superb idea for getting clean water to rural African villages.

yobaba rated 5 months ago- This is a wonderful 'invention': PlayPumps. Kids play on a merry-go-round and pump water for villages at the same time. [Girls benefit in particular because they are usually the ones fetching water.] But as far as "not having the resources for the diesel fuel or electricity to run the pumps" I have two thoughts. The first is that my grandfather didn't have electricity on his farm back in the mid-1900's, but they could pump water out of the ground by hand just fine. Do not need diesel or electricity for that! Secondly, why don't they apply this same principle and create some electricity (of sorts). You know those flashlights that shine once you've wound them up? Why can't a big merry-go-round do the same thing?

chelx rated 5 months ago- we need these kinds of ideas for a lot of places

highroadfarm rated 5 months ago- Great Idea!!! We SOOOOOOO take Water for Granted.

amourceleste rated 5 months ago- The incredibly innovative PlayPumps allow impoverished villages clean water while children play, preventing water-related diseases in a simplistic and imaginative manner.

wisdom-of-trees rated 5 months ago- What a bloody brilliant idea. Children play on a merry-go-round which pumps much needed well water to the surface.

DoctorDoom rated 5 months ago- Putting kid power to use in pumping clean water in sub-saharan africa. Good to see some creative problem solving.
