- Reading about the Winter War bursts my heart with pride over my country. I can feel the terror my grand parents must have felt, when they were told that the men, sent to a war practice were actually preparing for a war against the most powerful military force on earth. Finland had 30 tanks against Russian 6,541 tanks... Tells you a lot about the odds. Finland lost 26,662 men in battle, but comparing it to the 126,875 men Russia lost... Russian soldiers were led to believe that they can waltz into the country with nobody standing on their way, and they could kill anyone for sport... You can't really blame them for being surprised at the fact our men would utilize all their wit to keep them out of the country. And finally did... Both of my grand fathers were in there... As was every man of the country, and a large amount of women too. And, we would do it all over again if we had to - but God forbid.

- The Finnish held out the longest against the Axis at the beginning of WWII. Why? Because they had strategy. How were the Russians supposed to know that they were driving tanks onto frozen lakes? On frozen lakes, skis > tanks.
