Ellen Degeneres speaks out against a hate crime committed against a 14 year old gay student named Lawrence King. Touching. Just raising awareness for GLBT rights.

Even I poke fun a gay people sometimes. I find the premise of homosexuality funny and even disturbing, but I feel shamed by my perspective. But mostly I find humor in this persona that the "flamers" get--this attempt to master the persona of the opposite sex that seems, from my perspective, to go too far. This is not the case for most gay people today. Many seem to simply be what they are and they do not adopt this facade and I actually respect them better for it. Ultimately, though, I do NOT fear them or the idea that I could become gay because I recognize there is no real threat. I know that many gay men and women do a lot for our society. Many gay men are in healthcare--not because of some perversion, but simply compassion. Not to mention the way Elton John has touched our society through his music and Ellen has been a voice of comfort and humanity. I love these people for being human and trying to connect with humanity. I need to grow as a human and learn not to mock those I do not understand--that is my fault. But rest assured that I will defend and support any type of person who suffers society's wrath for being different.
