firebird912 rated 2 months ago- Personally, I have always been angry that in small-towns that I have lived in the plastic, fake ambience (if I can dignify Wal Mart with this word) has turned WalMart into a cult. People have nothing else to do, I guess. Plus, if they buy in such bulk quantity, why are some of their prices worse or higher than at the supermarket. Check out cat food cans at Wal-Mart sometime. In addition, they sell shoddy workmanship. I once bought a kitchen rug--within 6 months it was a rag!!! I have also heard a story where folks got hurt because a Wal Mart display fell on them. Wal Mart refused to compensate (hospital expenses, etc) in any way. I have also heard that their health"insurance" (an oxymoron, at best most times in this country) really, really stinks. The employees get stuck with many out-of pocket expenses. I have, regrettably, sold health insurance for a while. I had to stop, because the alternatives were: make money, but lie and then how could you sleep at night? or tell the truth and not get the sale. In any event, the fact is if you truly pool ALL of Wal Mart employees, you could probably negotiate a fabulous benefits package. But as a former New Yorker, I say: "fuggedaboutit!"
