 spiritinstereo rated 5 months ago- It is very clear that the author of this article has not read "The Selfish Gene". In the book, Professor Dawkins spends a great deal of time explaining how a gene encouraging altruism to one's close relatives (who would have a good chance of carrying that gene as well) is beneficial at a gene selection level. He says nothing close to "selfishness, even ruthless selfishness, pays off, and altruism does not," as Mr. Shipman posits here.
This article is wrong on many counts, but most discouraging is the incredible ignorance hiding behind self-assured lies, spitting in the face of everything science should be about.
