The best thing going for the junta is that the world has a very short attention span, and in a world of mass media where mass violence is commonplace, many people are not likely to be moved by the scenes in Burma.Nevertheless, there is some reaction in the international community. Today is apparently 'International Bloggers' Day for Burma'. I have no idea how effective that is at raising awareness, and if a raised awareness can affect any change for the better in Burma.Avaaz.org that makes up human rights petitions has had one for Burma as well. They claim to have half a million signatures and are aiming for a million. There was a protest march on Saturday in Auckland and a smaller silent march on Sunday. Christchurch, Wellington and Dunedin will have protests on Saturday. Protests around South and South East Asia are fairly small and the governments quiet. New Zealand continues to buy timber form Myanmar, and invests (pension fund) in the French oil company Total. The Myanmar economy being dominated by the government, I'm not opposed to targeted sanctions. Neither is the Burma Campaign UK.State Peace and Development CouncilSenior General Than Shwec/o Ministry of Defence, Naypyitaw, Union of MyanmarSalutation: Dear GeneralForeign Minister Nyan WinMinister of Foreign Affairs, Naypyitaw, Union of MyanmarFax: +95 1 222 950 , +95 1 221 719Salutation: Dear MinisterU Aye MaungAttorney GeneralOffice of the Attorney General, Office No. 25, Naypyitaw, Union of MyanmarFax: +95 67 404 146 , +65 67 404 106Salutation: Dear Attorney GeneralBrig-General Khin YiDirector General, Myanmar Police Force, Naypyitaw, Union of MyanmarSalutation: Dear Director GeneralMr. U Aung Soe WinCharge d'Affaires a.i.Ebassy of the Union of Myanmar22 Arkana StreetYarralumlaCanberra ACT 2600Australia Fax +64 2 6273 3181mecanberra@bigpond.comSalutation: Dear Sir

"Free Burma! International Bloggers' Day for Burma on the 4th of October" International bloggers are preparing an action to support the peaceful revolution in Burma. We want to set a sign for freedom and show our sympathy for these people who are fighting their cruel regime without weapons. These Bloggers are planning to refrain from posting to their blogs on October 4 and just put up one Banner then, underlined with the words ,,Free Burma!".
