NobleKnight rated 6 months ago- From the page: "Mohammed Image Archive" "Depictions of Mohammed Throughout History" "The Mohammed Image Archive is a compendium of images that depict Mohammed (the 7th-century founder of Islam), spanning all historical periods, cultures and genres. The inspiration for this Archive came from the global controversy over the publication of Mohammed cartoons in the Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten, and the need for a comprehensive and even-handed look at the wide variety of Mohammed depictions in Islamic and Western societies from the Middle Ages until today. It will remain online as a resource for those interested in freedom of expression. (Please note that the Arabic name "Mohammed" has over the years been transliterated into Western languages with several different spellings -- some of which you'll encounter on this site -- including Mahomet, Muhammad, and Mohamed.)-"

praxidike rated 8 months ago- The Mohammed Image Archive puts together a large number of sources, from medieval Islamic manuscripts to Renaissance renderings of Mohammed. There are many Islamic sources in which Mohammed's face was clearly depicted, mostly dating from 14th-15th centuries. Some of the most interesting ones are Renaissance works from Europe, which depict Mohammed in either contemporary European dress, or even as a Classical nude (while being tortured in the Inferno.) The Archive also shows the original illustrated book, and the cartoon contest opened in a Danish newspaper in order to find illustrators to depict Mohammed; as well as the images that were distributed by some Danish imams in the Middle East, which were not part of the publication, clearly a provocative act. Good job.

und1sk0 rated 9 months ago- Suck on that, Islam.

Luotaaja rated 9 months ago- Important information about the Muhammed controversy of 2005. I'm sure most people still think that the picture of the prophet had never ever been drawn before those events...when in reality the Jyllands-Posten pictures were far from the first ones, and the whole mayhem was on purpose stirred up by a bunch of stupid muslim fundamentalists.

KingBoy rated 9 months ago- Viewing or otherwise experiencing an object changes the subject; the interaction is a physical event. Offence is willful and a result of cognitive-linguistic confusion.
