ianrey rated 14 months ago- You can get a great education, even at a crappy school. You can get a lousy education, even at a top school. Education is effort; if you don't try, the best teacher in the world can't help you. If a student isn't pushed by parents to learn, a school won't make him excel. If a child is motivated by curiosity to explore, the oldest materials in the library won't stop her from learning. It's society, stupid. Stossel is a cherrypicking con artist, who forms his conclusions before he ever poses his questions, the very definition of media bias.
thebravery rated 14 months ago- How well you do in school is how effective the teacher is and how motivated the student is.. money isn't the real issue.
Tartessos rated 20 months ago- Parents, do yourself a favor and fight this system of rampant mediocrity. Personally, I home school. Do not settle for substandard education.

BrookeLyn rated 16 months ago- This program is slightly tilted and overly dramatized, but nonetheless, it casts light on a very real problem in America. The public school systems are broken beyond repair and need a complete overhaul. This program did a fine job showing WHO we can blame for the lack of improvement, but they didn't spend too much time exploring WHY the schools don't work. The methods of teaching that are used in the public schools are an utter failure and throwing more money into a faulty method is useless. Competition is the first step to shake the ps out of complacency, but then much restructuring and retraining is required. I hope this happens in my lifetime, but I'm not holding my breath. I am a supporter of private schools and home schooling until that day.
sailorjerrygood rated 19 months ago- this seems so true to me, as a recent highschool graduate and a young parent, i know how shitty school can be. i didn't want to be there and none of my classmates wanted to be there, what makes this countries educators think that a bigger facility will make us want to be there more? i would really like to talk to that union lady from new york, her points didn't even make sence (even allowing for a little "TV magic" she still didn't make sence).
DJNazzy rated 17 months ago- Holy shit! See I don't know that much about the American public school system, but this video is extremely biased. Completely libertarian solution - "competition makes everything better!". Thanks for the capitalism 20/20, but really now, other school systems around the world that are better than the United States' system don't use competition. Here we don't give people public money so they can go to private schools, that's a bit backwards isn't it? I mean, people pay taxes then if they want to have their kids go to private school they need to pay those same taxes AND pay the fees of the private school. But our system isn't based on property tax - every school in the province is funded equitably. Instead of this program saying "let's improve our public schools!" it says, "let's get our kids out of these shitty public schools as fast as we can!" - what kind of school system would remain when everyone is trying to leave? It would degenerate further, in my opinion. Americans really need to look at a few things when it comes to their school systems - giving choice might not be the best thing to look at though! Communist Russia had a brilliant education system, and despite the time spent in line ups there this video liked to refer too, I'd put my money on a Soviet-educated kid any day.
