You don't need to know anything about computers to have a bullshit detector. People mystify technology needlessly, and it causes them to be taken advantage of. This is what happened in the early days of the automobile, too. Now people are far more aware of bullshit, even if they don't know how their car works.

I understand that it hard to diagnose a computer problem, but at least one should out with the easy, cheap repairs first then move on to the more difficult, expensive solutions, ie. the motherboard

I had a dodgy RAM module I was blaming on the motherboard. And then I fixed it. I also had a dodgy IDE drive which I was blaming on the motherboard. And then I fixed that. Sometimes it's not as simple to give a straight diagnosis, and I suspect the footage of some of the technicians was of their first thoughts rather than a conclusive diagnosis/prognosis. We do this thought processing all the time fixing problems: "It looks like the motherboard is fried. Well, if it is the board, I'll need to order one and wait for delivery, but if it's just the hard drive I can pick one up cheap from ABCXYZ..." etc. It's not conclusive until we actually commit a fix. And even then you're on shaky ground.

the guy who said it was the motherboard could have easily been mistaken, the rest were either stupid or trying to scam.

Interesting clip, but it would have been nice if they detailed the ones that got it right. At least give them some recognition!
