Explores the idea of peeling away the restrictions of traditional education in order to uncover humans' innate sense of imagination. Inspired thoughts. Seriously, check out the TED talks on youtube or wherever; All that I've watched so far have been thought provoking at the very least.

Humorous (but quite serious) talk about how education should celebrate and encourage creativity rather than quashing it. Math skills aren't everything, as this guy reiterates.

Absolutely wonderful, entertaining speech regarding the way we currently treat the education of our children, and the direction we need to go in order for all of our children to flourish in their own unique ways.

Sir Ken Robinson gives a speech/presentation in 2006 called "Do Schools Today Kill Creativity? This is from Ted.com. This is funny, inspiring, and all too true (in my opinion as a human being and as a university instructor. . . a group of people he does make fun of).
Here are some of my favorite quotes:
"What we do know is if you're not prepared to be wrong, you'll never come up with anything original."
"We're running national education systems where mistakes are the worst things you can make."
"We don't grow into creativity, we grow out of it...or rather we get educated out of it."
"We need to radically rethink our view of intelligence." He goes on to explain that intelligence is diverse, dynamic, and distinct, and that we need to stop educating people with the same "hierarchy of subjects" that we use today.

These TED seminars are always brilliant and this one is no exception. Imagine if our education could be custom designed for each individual, allowing you a comfortable pace for the hard stuff and a heavy dose of what you do well in. This is why my wife and I have decided to try homeschooling. It will be tough, but well worth it. No, my children are not socially deprived, nor do we shelter them from anything but the weather. I just know that this guy is absolutely right. I used to be an artist when I was younger, but I got away from it because I was told it was a waste of time.

i especially enjoyed the emphasis on "diversity".... acceptance of this innate quality enables unrestricted expansion of human potential.
