"Today's child is bewildered when he enters the 19th century environment that still characterizes the educational establishment where information is scarce but ordered and structured by fragmented, classified patterns, subjects and schedules." - Marshall McLuhan 1967 ... the education system was originally conceived following the industrial revolution as a necessity for getting a basic education in subjects that were thought to be most important for the time for career acquisition -- Math, Science and Language -- while other topics were benignly pushed to the side, as it was thought that you could not earn a living through them ... since the digital revolution, this very concept has been tilted upsidown where creative endeavors are now most important for career acquisition -- however, the school systems have not adapted with the changing times ... our children are still our future, and this is *exactly* what needs to be addressed if our nation wants to remain competitive on the world stage ...

I don't facebook during class. I do however get bored with lectures, and end up checking email, myspace, googling something the teacher said the class before. I think the key here is that the system is behind. Here are all these kids that are completely connected...but to the wrong thing. Can't we integrate education into technology and make the educational experience a more interactive one? I personally cannot stand the fact that I pay so much for books I don't crack. It's bullshit and knowledge can be presented in a different, less expensive, environmentally friendly kind of way.

Wow... I made myself sit through this entire video- almost 5 minutes, an no commercials... which probably would have been a nice diversion. I tried, I really did, but I have no real idea what the point of this whole production is. Is this a clarion call advocating the benefit of technology in the classroom? Or perhaps the need for a more integrated curriculum is being championed? and that naughty chalkboard... let's take that thing to task! I don't know... Mainly, I just came away thinking how those students spent too much time watching t.v., fiddling with their I-Pods, goofing around on the internet, and such frivolous stuff such as all that. I'm also thinking they need to read more books! And why aren't they using their texts? This is the university people. You have to work my friends... three hours a day studying? How weak is that? Anyway... I am definitely unimpressed with this video. What a wasted use of technology? I found it aimless and boring... Really...
