Principles of economics, translated Absolutely a must view! Hilariously parodizing (I nearly fell off my chair laughing) economics and economists. From the New York Times' Economic Humor: No Longer an Oxymoron review article: On Saturday night, the American Economic Association held its very first humor session. The room was packed. Like the Recent Financial Crises panel earlier in the day (headlined by some of the professions top macroeconomists), this one played to a standing-room-only crowd ... Finally Yoram Bauman, who bills himself as the stand-up economist, took the podium. He performed his much-beloved parody of Greg Mankiws popular economics textbook ... Two thumbs up, way up.

Well, that clears up a few things.

You know, on the study of economics, once you push past the really boring stuff, you get to the concentrated black magic and calculating evil of the whole thing: all money is loaned into existence, and all debt is a claim on future labor that assumes the future will be perpetually greater than the past. It is definitely a conflicted art, since almost all measures of progress are economic ones, in the forward march from agricultural to industrial to post-industrial societies. And, by the way, yes, this is funny. Brought to you by the world's first and only stand-up economist.

"Most people think that might be the same as being offered a SINGLE snickers bar, but that kind of sloppy thinking wont get you a tenure track position." Theres LOTS of stuff in here way to subtle for the average stumbler. Those who already think clearly about the world will appreciate this.

Harvard professor N. Gregory Mankiw's introductory economics textbook, Principles of Economics came up with 10 core principles. This short video translates them from econo-speak to reality-based humour. I believe it's based on this text that explains how the magic happens. Very funny stuff. Honestly.
