Michio Kaku is smart, but not smart enough. He talks like he is a mystic, unveiling priveledged knowledge that only he can know, and of course, he is so absolutely right... he must not be questioned, right? Moore's law has to fail, he says. Does it? Because we just HAVE to apply it only to Silicon? Silicon just has to be done to a certiain size where it will break... right? Wrong, wrong and wrong again. Doesn't take a genius to see flaws with his thinking. What's wrong with just having them very small, but just the right size? What's wrong with stacking them up together rather than just having one layer of Silicon? What's wrong with using fault tolerant molecular computing? So sure about it taking 50-100 years? Why? Michio Kaku has some explaining to do.

Michio Kaku is speaking in spin and not science. He equates human intelligence to raw computational power and ignores the much more important issue of organization. The human brain is not a miracle of computational power - it's pathetic by modern day computer standards. Instead, it is a miracle of elegant organization, clever tricks, and massive parallelization. He also throws out statements like the 'speed of human thought' and actually gives it a number, an extraordinarily large number in the billions of bits per second. There is no scientific basis for such numbers. Finally, he states that robotic intelligence is less impressive than a 'retarded cockroach'. Well these retarded cockroaches kick my ass in chess every time, drive rovers for 150 miles across the Arizona desert, and are astoundingly skilled at pattern recognition. Kaku is a master of flawed thinking and ironically, he just lowered the bar that AI must achieve to reach human intelligence.

This guy doesn't know what he's talking about. Moores law isn't just for silicon based computers. Where the hell does he get his 'speed' of thought from? That's total bullshit. Seriously, why was he asked to speak about AI? He doesn't know what he's talking about and really needs to do some research. BTW, how many years ago was people claiming Moore's law was about to end? Remember IBM, maybe 5 computer, remember Popular Mechanics, "A computer of the future may only have 1,500 vacuum tubes and weigh only 1/2 a ton" This guy is the same thing.

this is quite old. i think Michio Kaku would now disagree with most of what was said in this interview.
