Because you people and 62 million americans are listening to me right now. Because less than 3% of you read books. Because less than 15% of you read newspapers. Because the only truth you know is what you get over this tube. Right now, there's a whole, a...

finestcuts rated 24 months ago- The new generation is choosing what media they consume, but there are still lots of TV heads out there. Turn on, tune in, switch OFF your TV. I only choose specifically what I watch when I do and I'm glad that the net is here and instead of staring at a tube just to see what is on next, we can choose what subject we wish to read about.
Innomen rated 24 months ago- It's nice seeing the world catch up to me. I saw this movie before I heard of ninja turtles.

- From the video:"Turn off the tube!Turn off the television!Turn it off right now!Turn it off in the midlle of a sente..." (click)I kept expecting his audience to burst out laughing, and it never happened. The only one who laughed was him.
bear4luvn rated 24 months ago- Network, a movie made 30 years ago, is the very essence of what mainstream media is today.

Because you people and 62 million americans are listening to me right now. Because less than 3% of you read books. Because less than 15% of you read newspapers. Because the only truth you know is what you get over this tube. Right now, there's a whole, an entire generation who never knew anything that didn't come out of this tube. This tube is the gospel, the ultimate revelation. This tube can break or make presidents, popes, prime ministers. This tube is the most awesome goddamn force in the whole godless world, and woe is us if it ever falls in the hands of the wrong people. And when the 12th largest company in the world controls the most awesome goddamn propaganda force in the whole godless world, who knows what shit will be peddled for truth on this network?
Television is not the truth. Television is a goddamned amusement park. Television is a circus, a carnival, a traveling troop of acrobats, story tellers, dancers, singers, jugglers, sideshow freaks, live tamers and football players. So if you want the truth, go to God, go to your gurus, go to yourselves! Because that's the only place you'll find some real truth.
We deal in illusions man, none of it is true! But you people, sit there day after day, night after night, all ages, color, creeds... we're all you know. You're beginning to believe the illusions we're spinning here, you're beginning to believe that the tube is reality and your own lives are unreal. You do whatever the tube tells you: you dress like the tube, you eat like the tube, you raise your children like the tube, you even think like the tube. This is mass madness, you maniacs! In God's name, you people are the real thing, WE are the illusion!
So turn off your television sets!
Turn them off now!
Turn them off right now!
Turn them off and leave them off!
Turn them off right in the middle of this sentence I'm speaking to you now!
Turn them off...!"
Parts of the best film monologue I have ever seen in my life. Network has quickly become one of my favorite movies of all time, and apparently many agree with me. This movie made 30 years ago rings more closer to home than it did back then. I am glad to see someone express the anger I have felt for the entertainment industry for years in such a perfect manner that brings goosebumps all over me. If you want to see a damn good movie, which is one of the only two movies to ever win three academy awards for acting, check Network out, youtube has it in parts.
Peter Finch, the actor who does these two awesome scenes, died before the academy awards happened, and became the only actor to win an Oscar while dead. Such a damn terrible loss to this world.
Blake4014 rated 11 months ago- haha incredible, and more true than people would like to accept or realize.
NYNomad057 rated 7 months ago- From the page: "A movie made 30 years ago that perfectly describes the situation today about television, news, and the main stream media. It resonates louder and sounds truer today that it did when the movie was made."
