Del Shannon ~ "Runaway"----
This was a monster hit in 1961! #1 for four weeks! That weird sound in the middle of the song was created by an electric organ called a Musitron, which was played by the song's co-writer Max Crook.
Del Shannon had many hits in the early to mid-Sixties, and he went on to produce hits for others, most notably Brian Hyland's version of "Gypsy Woman." Peter & Gordon took Del's "I Go To Pieces" to #9 in 1965, too. Sadly, Del Shannon took his own life on 2/08/90.
