ericpaul rated 8 weeks ago- Artur & Karl Ulrich Schnabel play Schubert Rondo.
Artur Schnabel and his son Karl Ulrich play a very fresh and forward Schubert. Many pianists mistake diminuendo (gradually getting softer) with ritardando (gradually getting slower). The Schnabels also make excellent distinction in articulation and dynamics: staccato (short), non legato (not bound) and all kinds of piano/pianissimo/pianississimo shadings. Their tempos are never too slow, as some famous (Schubert-)pianists do, f.i.: Perahia/Lupu and Tal/Groethuysen. After more than 50 years this recording still stands as an important reference.
