Rudy Giuliani reports 230 million worth of gold and silver bars were recovered. This report claims approaching a billion dollars worth of precious metals remain missing.
The idea of Giuliani only reporting on the 230 million in precious metals return and neglecting to mention the missing billion worth implies he was downplaying the extent of the crime or he was oblivious to it. No doubt the under a billion was an under estimation. The stake in this massive crime was more likely the $7 billion insurance claim Silverstein wanted plus a few more billions in gold plus a green light to war for oil in the Middle East. Private enterprise with the changed political contours in the Middle East are probably looking at projected profits in the $trillions meanwhile the cost, mostly heaped on American tax payers, of the Iraq war to date is reportedly $2 trillion.
