- Wow! Forgive me for being a nerd, but what is really cool about these patterns is that those LEDs must be able to switch on and off incredibly quickly. At 5400 rpm the outside of a 3 1/4 inch disk moves at about 3.25 inch * 2pi * (5400/60) = about 46 m/s. The resolution of those lines looks better than 1 mm. The things should be able to switch on and off in less than (46 (m / s)) / (1 mm) = 1/46000th of a second.
