Dave Brubeck's "Take Five" song and album of the same name was a watershed event in the history of jazz music. The originality of the tune was its time not only its peculiar time signatures but its shift from one peculiar time signature to another within the same song. The tune succeeded with critics and with fans who never learned to play music themselves.
