The reactable, is a multi-user electronic music instrument with a tabletop tangible user interface. Several simultaneous performers share complete control over the instrument by moving physical objects on a luminous table surface. By moving and relating these objects, representing components of a classic modular synthesizer, users can create complex and dynamic sonic topologies, with generators, filters and modulators, in a kind of tangible modular synthesizer or graspable flow-controlled programming language. This instrument is being developed by a team of digital luthiers (Sergi Jordà, Martin Kaltenbrunner, Günter Geiger and Marcos Alonso), at the Music Technology Group within the Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona, Spain. Multitouch interfaces hadn't really excited me until I saw this. Now I get it.

Oh my God this is beautiful. A Minority Report-ish interface for creating music. I can only hope that by the time this thing is perfected I'm not too old to shake my booty to the beats. Stolen from Veenatron.

Absolute genius, i had to watch this video a few times before i could believe it wasn't made up. I've seen that someone is using one live with Bjork at the moment, it makes it look even more impressive seeing it used in a show.

This video doesn't give a good sense of how well it works for producing music, but the reactable looks like it has potential.
