According to Yahoo, some guy just survived a 10,000 foot fall when both of his parachutes failed during a skydiving trip. He had a camera with him and got it all on film. He messed his neck up and received the dreaded nerve damage that is so hard to cure but so easy to sue somebody for... he's doing well, apparently. Good jump, soldier. That leads me into what I did this weekend. I fucked around and stumbled off of an 8 foot structure onto the most solid concrete shop floor known to man. I cleared two motorcycles and landed with panther-like agility on the part of the floor that was free of hazardous objects. Despite my perfect form, the heel bones in both of my feet shattered on impact. I screamed a manly scream, though. It was a far cry from a bitchy little girl scream. That was my solace, my comforting thought as I drifted in and out of the hazy opiate dream of heavy pain killers all weekend long, propped up and hating life in my hospital room. You should see the X-rays. One of my heels looks like a sock full of gravel. They claim they're going to rebuild it in a single surgery. I have my doubts. However, I did learn something worth knowing: If you're broke enough, you don't have to pay hospital bills. I'm indigent! If my dad's guesstimate was on point, an injury like mine costs YOUR insurance company somewhere in the neighborhood of $80,000 to $100,000 dollars after all's said and done. He based that on the bill he got after feeding his fingers to the radiator fan of a large crane. He got better. I owe $22.00. Fuck success! If there were an internationally recognizable gesture that expressed the unique sensations felt as one sticks it to the man, I'd be making that gesture right now, all up the man's grill like... what? Assuming, of course, that I wouldn't have to use my feet. I'm just gonna put down like that right there and leave it alone. I just stumbled myself into orbit. Sweet dreams, suckers. Editors note: The cavalier attitude expressed by the author is merely an attempt to accentuate the positive aspects of his fucked up existence. What was he doing before he stumbled off the edge? Dismantling his hobo fort and trying to get his clothes packed for his final departure from Colorado, that's what he was doing. 45 fuckin minutes. I was 45 fucking minutes from escaping Oz. My escape driver showed up and just laughed at me as the paramedics strapped me down for my trip to the E.R. You'll do anything to stay in this state, won't you? I flipped him the bird. With emphasis.

We need reminders that our image of ourselves is conditioned by the words we use to describe ourselves. You may be a genius on paper, but the payoff will be when you invent something new.

I consider that http://www.yahoo.com/ is the best web-based e-mail account available. This site also provides a wealth of information on all manner of topics from news to finance and nearly everything else in between. http://uk.yahoo.com/ is the UK & Ireland version. There is also a rather good Instant Messenger facility! Happy e-mailing! Updated 9 August 2009
