onursan discovered 23 months ago- Lighter and more efficient with Xfce Desktop environment. Ideal for old or low-end machines. And more on Ubuntu:

shade11 rated 3 months ago- I love Xubuntu.

gdiver rated 5 months ago- xubuntu: ubuntu distro that works well on older machines.

Xalien rated 6 months ago- I've got Xubuntu on an old desktop, it works great and had a noticeable speed improvement after Ubuntu.

alkirob rated 9 months ago- I really need to hop on the linux train. Maybe this is the right flavor for me.

elstocke rated 12 months ago- This like gnome but on steroids. Runs very well on an old PII laptop and flys on my P4 machine.

Mr-Ed rated 12 months ago- A couple of months ago my wife got a new computer and I installed Ubuntu (6.10) to try and get some use out of it. Worked great but after talking to some people I realized that I was only using some internet applications and not much else. I burned a live CD of Xubuntu and rebooted. The install did NOT go as smooth as Ubuntu. First it said that there was no current OS to copy information from. Next, no what option I tried it was unable to partition the hard drive, either it didn't have root access or swap space. Finally I decided to try one last time, boom, it found Ubuntu and migrated the users and had no trouble using the defaults to partition the disk. It works great, looks nice and is noticeably faster than Ubuntu.

SilentM rated 14 months ago- Works great on my laptop (hp pavillion ze4500, 128 MB ram). Although I had to do the text-based install.

zoobiebizz rated 14 months ago- very clean install on my laptop (which is very low end)
