I am unsure what to think of this. It is a neat little "virtual desktop" that lets you fiddle around with all the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG cards, (provided that you download the complete sets and images here) create decks, look at the images, (albeit they are somewhat grainy) read the description and it has a very decent search function. It even has the advanced and traditional format forbidden lists built in for quick reference while making your deck. It also allows you to play a duel of Yu-Gi-Oh! against anyone in the world - at least in theory.
I have bent over backwards for this program trying to set up a static IP address which is a prerequisite for connecting to your opponent. (Yes, you will need to know your sparring-partner's IP or he/she will need to know yours, which means you have to find these people somewhere and cannot just begin duelling straight away. Granted, XeroCreative does have an irc-client chat-room for this purpose but that means you will need an irc-client as well.)
That being said this is all-in-all a fairly good and well-thought out program, especially considering that it is completely free. (Except for the possibility of taxing ip-configuration.) You will need to know the rules for playing Yu-Gi-Oh! and a more than basic knowledge of the cards, as this "game" (I hesitate to call it that. It is really more of a Virtual Desktop as the name also implies.) offers no automatics nor any explanations besides the card-descriptions - which, let's face it, are understandable Engrish at best and tedious ill-worded phone-book directories at worst. (Just read the description for "Relinquished." Geez!)
The reason that I found this is that Konami are increasingly becoming more and more evil to deal with. As of now they will not accept my visa on their official website, (for no reason whatsoever) I cannot purchase duel passes in an actual store, since my country apparently does not carry the item and the Konami support seems to flat out refuse to address my issues. As anyone who has been into nerdy things similar to Trading Card Games should be able to attest to, it is a very expensive hobby to have - and playing the official Yu-Gi-Oh! online, does not help your pockets any. Therefore, this is definitely worth looking into, if not as a replacement then at least as a supplement.
However, unless you have a lot of patience I would not recommend this for you if you are just getting into Yu-Gi-Oh! (with the possible exception of old-time Magic! The Gathering players - you fellows seem to adapt quite naturally to other Trading Card Games.) and if you should be so unlucky to be stuck with a router access to the internet and you do not happen to be tech-savvy, you might as well forget everything about this right away. (Unless you have two computers on which to play against someone with the same router as you, then it is as easy as just feeding them the local ip, which you can find by -> start -> run -> cmd -> ipconfig)
This program does deserve a thumbs up if you are used to playing Yu-Gi-Oh! and want a cheap alternative to the official game (online or not) or even if you just find a platform on which to construct and save deck-recipes useful. If that applies to you, then go ahead download it. You won't be disappointed.
Respectfully,
Sketch
P.S. For anyone who might read this and have absolutely no idea what I am talking about. I bet you didn't know I was this geeky, huh?
