zaibatsu-SU discovered 17 months ago- From the page: "The global public believes that tensions between Islam and the West arise from conflicts over political power and interests and not from differences of religion and culture, according to a BBC World Service poll across 27 countries."

surlyotter rated 17 months ago- Before you dismiss this page without even reading it (as I know some stumblers will do), think for a moment about the political legacy of Kennan's "containment" policy...not that it didn't work during the Cold War, but it has clearly left the world with very deep scars. Let me spell it out, although I really shouldn't have to: propping up dictators simply because they were opposed to communism tended to leave a sour taste in local people's mouths.

TOMTHUMB rated 17 months ago- From the page: "Most people around the world clearly reject the idea that Islam and the West are caught in an inevitable clash of civilizations, said Steven Kull, director of the Program on International Policy Attitudes at the University of Maryland. Doug Miller, president of GlobeScan, added: Perhaps the strongest finding is that so many people across the world blame intolerant minorities on both sides for the tensions between Islam and the West." Note that these are results of opinion

senorsam21 rated 17 months ago- Wow... those westerners sure are ignorant.

epeefencer rated 17 months ago- This doesn't surprise me, most people "believe" what they see and hear in the media never taking the time to find out for themselves. In the not too distant past world opinion was the world was flat! That didn't make it true, it was just what people were told and most believed. So many more issues are the same, Islam by its very tenants wishes to "convert" or subjugate everyone.

The-Billy rated 17 months ago- Islam is a religion. If there is a tension between Islam and ____, then it is a religious tension by defenition

- I am not surprised by these poll results. What is ironic is while these religious moderates claim it's not religious issues, they are providing shield for the extremists who really do believe it's purely religious. I think you would have to really naive to think religion has no role in what's going on in the Middle East. I often here people say religion isn't bad people are bad. This is true, but you could say politics or nationalism isnt bad, people are bad. This moderation doesn't help understand the ideology of those who want to do harm.

Rogan rated 17 months ago- From the page: "The global public believes that tensions between Islam and the West arise from conflicts over political power and interests and not from differences of religion and culture, according to a BBC World Service poll across 27 countries. While three in ten (29%) believe religious or cultural differences are the cause of tensions, a slight majority (52%) say tensions are due to conflicting interests. The poll also reveals that most people see the problems arising from intolerant minorities and not the cultures as a whole. While 26 percent believe fundamental differences in cultures are to blame, 58 percent say intolerant minorities are causing the conflict %u2013 with most of these (39% of the full sample) saying that the intolerant minorities are on both sides." Sounds about right to me.
