This is excellent advice and something I preach all the time. If you don't ask, you'll never get anything better!

That's brilliant. Some people hate or are scared of dealing with sales people and they miss out on deals like these! Lesson learned.

Personally, I just use Netflix.

Smart fellow! I know lots of companies bundle services now. Maybe we all should consider doing this.

From the page: "Before I started, I had Comcast Digital Cable Silver (Around $78 a month) and High Speed Internet ($43 a month). I also got my phone through Qwest for another $30 a month, and that had no long distance. Total = $151 a month. After my 10-minute call, I had upgraded to Comcast Gold (2 movie channels) plus High Speed Internet, also got my phone service through Comcast (dumping my $30 Qwest phone bill) with free installation, I got long distance free, plus a DVR with DVR service and free installation. Total = $129 a month." I can see the value of haggling for a lower rate, but shelling out $129/month to watch TV and talk on the phone still sounds outrageous to me. We go the route of rabbit ears and swapping DVDs with friends and family. It may be cheap, but it's how I can afford being home with the kids.

Perhaps we should all threaten to discontinue our cable service... After going through the channel line-up last night and finding that we have no use for the 45 music channels or the dozens of sports channels or the numerous channels that broadcast in languages we don't even speak, several 'shopping' channels and other assorted crap, it may not be a bad idea for us to just do it. It would even be fun to hear them beg us not to.
