A hacker attack on an Epilepsy Forum posted flashing images that caused seizures in some of those viewing them. An example of the images is here (obviously, don't view if you have epilepsy). Who might conduct such a criminal attack? The suspicion has fallen on Anonymous, a... more

Truly despicable. It's attempted assault at the least, and depraved indifference (homocide) if the worst happens, since it was a deliberate act. There's no reason to allow javascript on the forums, though, it should be an 'animated-GIF'/javascript free zone. From the page: "Internet griefers descended on an epilepsy support message board last weekend and used JavaScript code and flashing computer animation to trigger migraine headaches and seizures in some users. okay so the connection to scientology is what? I mean me having a seizure benefits what organization or group? That's just stupid. How can this be some kind of statement? What a horrible thing to do. It doesn't just hurt but it puts my very life in danger to have a seizure. thier idiots.

Scary! To know that the net and these epilepsy forums are a refuge for epileptics globally, where we meet to share our unique troubles, to feel accepted and understand whats going on inside our med numbed heads, to feel normal - to make up for all the other activities we can't participate in like clubbing or concerts or rafting or swimming or trekking or driving or rollerblading or cycling or gaming or amusement parks - any damned thing...B*******. May they rot whoever they are. Life's painful enough when you drop semi-dead out of the blue in the weirdest of places. And no...these are definitely not Hackers. Hackers are generally an intelligent, thinking breed...these were not.

Hey, for the record, these were not hackers. Hacker's test security and protect the flow of information, thats all. I believe the technical term for people who would do this is "asshole".

epilepsy: another fascinating (to me) example of how much our functioning and experience are dictated by the operations of the nervous system. but i can't figure why someone or somebodies would find it amusing to attempt to trigger seizures in unsuspecting sufferers. i can only view the responsible party as profoundly ignorant or pathologically cruel.
