    I would love to see a citation for the claim that the processor time spent is cheaper and faster than the bandwidth. Compression is generally a somewhat expensive computation. More than anything it probably comes down to a matter of balance. If you are looking to decrease your bandwidth use, this is a good option. If you are already hurting for processor, stay away.
