Interesting "lost wallet test". But to take a step back and inspect incentives and motivations, I would have to say the unspoken elephant in the room is breakdown of the population by income (which would be more difficult in this test). People who are older and more well-off get more value out of the feeling of doing good, and people who are younger and not economically satisfied will derive greater benefit out of monetizing the contents of the wallet. -$0.02

100 wallets are deliberately dropped and monitored to observe the actions others take upon discovering them. It's quite interesting.

100 wallets dropped in front of hidden cameras to test the honesty of the average person finding them.

I will never ever pick up a wallet again without ensuring there isn't a camera around!! Quite interesting.

Therealdiablo is an idiot; this test is interesting, but the sample was too small to be statistically significant. About a thousand tests would be needed to approach a reliable margin of error. In addition, it was not a truly random sample, because the people tested were not drawn from a random cross section of the population- some people are more likely to hang out in certain areas, such as high traffic public areas, so those people would be disproportionately more likely to become involved in this test.

Very interesting. A test that proves that stereotypes are sometimes justified.
