- Meh. "It takes light 18 years to reach the fringes of our solar system?" Well, that's one of the larger errors I've seen lately. It's off by a factor of more than 20,000. It only takes light 5.5 hours to reach Pluto, and the heliopause is only about 7 light-hours away. *That's* the fringes of our solar system.
In 18 years, light will have passed by and through the fringes of the solar systems of 52 other stars in our neighborhood, hardly allowing us to claim them as the fringes of our solar system.
I'm all for good speed-of-light jokes, but it's not hard to change this one enough that it's somewhere close to right.
And stop hating on the genius Robert Matthew Van Winkle. The aliens will be here to give him a place of honor.
