From the page: "The phrase â€The Customer is Always Right†is the single worst philosophy that has ever been adopted by American culture. It gave an entire generation of people the green light to be as impolite, unreasonable, and demanding as their little hearts desired because they were... more

Well said! I couldn't agree more completely and wish that I could claim similar actions. Update: The writer states that she was at breakfast with her husband, yet of the reviews that make any mention of gender all assume the writer is male. I wonder why that is? Why do so many reviews consist solely of a quote from the piece? Presumably we've all just finished reading it, I doubt that many read the reviews before deciding whether or not to purview the actual site.

From the page: "I have a theory about asshole customers: I think they only act that way because no one ever calls them on their bullshit. The poor kids behind the counter can't stand up for themselves lest they lose their jobs and other patrons look the other way claiming `it's none of my business.'" I agree with this theory severely.

I long for the day a manager walks up to a table and says, "How dare you treat my employee this way. Get out now." I continue to wait for this day, instead I just try to kill the customers with kindness. And laserbeams from my eyes.

Awesome post. Response to stumbler Tisstuip: "A bit pompous?" Some people out there have to stand up for people or be willing to call "bullshit" when no one else has the guts to. "Free tater tots?" The man in the restaurant has the right to not tip and to never come back, not be an ass.

I think this article has some valid points, but the author seems to be a bit pompous. I don't know it was the pretentious "I like to lick bagels, and read the paper next to a window in a coffee shop" opening, the extra long and unnecessary diatribe, or the fact this person feels entitled to be the service-police. The customer isn't always wrong either and customer service has fallen through the cracks in a lot of places. I generally don't get mad over poor service, but when I'm disrespected I tend to react very sternly. The customer had a right to be angry at the sub-par service in the restaurant, but he should not have taken it out on the server. It was the restaurant's fault for not adequately staffing experienced employees, and the man probably did deserve some free tater tots...

Oh my dear God! I'm not alone in my thinking after all! This ranks up there with the folks who park in the fire lane in front of local stores, because they are too lazy to park their car in a parking spot & walk their fat asses (like I do, I am fat!) to the doors. Either that or they feel entitled somehow or are afraid to melt in the inclement weather...
