Many people slander Christianity claiming that they invented the whole flat earth concept, because of the Holy Bible (Bible doesn't claim earth is flat, neither indirectly nor directly)

It's true that the Church never denied that the earth was round. But up until relatively recently the Church absolutely insisted that the world was the center of the universe and would literally kill those who disagreed. Being in agreement with science on one particular fact doesn't suddenly make them less of an enemy to science.

The idea that people before Columbus actually believed that the Earth was flat is a well-known myth. That said, this page is a straw-man attack against critics of the Christian's treatment of Science.

"Look how stupid these Christians are. They are always getting in the way of science and progress. These people who deny evolution today are exactly the same sort of people as those idiots who for at least a thousand years denied that the earth was round. How stupid can you get?"
But that is not the truth."

I agree. But try this instead:
These people who deny evolution today are exactly the same sort of people as those who denied that the Earth moved around the Sun, literally murdering those who insisted otherwise.
That is the truth."

--------

By the way, the Bible does imply that the Earth is flat many times. It's fair to say that these implications are "indirect", but they are certainly there.

Daniel 4:11 describes a tree that is so tall, it's visible from everywhere on Earth. Matthew 4:1-12 duplicates this with a mountain.

Job 38:13 says "take the earth by the edges and shake the wicked out of it". Clearly a "figure of speech", but a strange thing to say if one knows that the Earth is a sphere and has no edges.

The Earth is often referred to as a "circle", such as in Isaiah 40:22. Some claim that this is because Hebrew has no word for "Sphere", but a word translated as "ball" (duwr) does appear in the Hebrew Pentateuch.

More on this issue her e and here.

It's not entirely clear whether Hebrew scripture depicts the Earth as a flat circle or a sphere. It is clear, however, that it depicts the Earth at the center of the universe with the sun, moon, stars, etc. moving around it.
