- "You tube for the Avantgarde" is the nickname for this huge collection (predominantly) historical sound text and image usually only to be found in museums and art galleries. American poet and artist Kenneth Goldsmith started it in 1996 by scanning his collection poesie concrète-books and putting it on-line. He named the project: Ubu (www.ubu.com) inspired by the famous character Père Ubu invented by his favorite author Alfred Jarry. The archive grew very rapidly covering world music recordings, film and video productions by artists, sound projects, an archive of found poetry and complete art projects and books. Goldsmith, now working with an editorial staff, is still eager to share his interests with the rest of the world. This may sound like a mishmash but it isn't. The section "Film and video" is of great value to those who are interested in experimental movies and art and artists movies.
