    Electric would be more energy efficient as the generators are built purely for efficiency, not for being able to resist shocks or fluctuate speeds, etc, and if you plug in at off-peak times (such as at night) you are using normally wasted energy as it is extremelly inneficient for power companies to restart generators. However the environmental impact of electrics and hybrids is often underestimated as the manufacturing process for the batteries, lead or lithium, and creates a huge environmental impact.
