I hated the character of Wesley on Star Trek, The Next Generation. Loathed him. And, by extension, I came to hate the actor who played him. But who knew Wil Wheaton could be so funny and so self-deprecating? These blogs - his summaries of TNG's first season episodes - are brilliant. I've gained new respect for the man. Once they get to the battle bridge, Picard is a total dick to Riker. He's such a dick, Data and the unnamed CONN guy (played by future DS9regular Colm Meaney) share a meaningful, "WTF" look. Picard then playsthe popular "Q Gone Wild" video for Riker, and Riker delivers a "WTF"look of his own. The saucer section arrives, and Picard ordersRiker to reconnect it manually. ... Riker gets to the battle bridge, and after a whole bunch of "WTF" looks allaround, successfully reconnects the stardrive section to the saucersection, in a scene that earns the Star Trek: The Motion Picture award for unnecessary and entirely too long visual effects jerk off.
